Shule Ya Wajenzi

(Swahili For: Builders School)

The economic challenges that face Chicago’s West Side are deeply rooted in an entrenched urban culture of exclusivity, marginalization, miseducation leading to unpreparedness, and cronyism - and the construction and development industries of the City are a prime example of this wayward culture. The negative effects of the culture on the overall system of City life show up as larger than normal gaps between the West Side and other communities in deaths, education, poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse.

Shule Ya Wajenzi (SYW) is a 12-week Construction and Development program taking place in Summer 2025 that seeks to restore and reshape culture in its participants through the theory and practice of construction life science so that its graduates can purpose their best selves in building a more sustainable Future for all of Chicago with the goal of systemic culture change.

Class schedules have been formatted to improve discipline, teamwork, and performance, while allowing adequate time to balance work-life, and paying a small stipend to incentivize participants for their matriculation.

Upon graduation, SYW promises to work with its Alumni to successful placement in growth-oriented opportunities and beyond in the existing and expanding network of its Founder.
